About Sainik School

Sainik Schools are a unique system of schools in India, established and managed by the Sainik Schools Society under the Ministry of Defence. These schools aim to prepare young boys and girls academically, physically, and mentally for entry into the National Defence Academy (NDA) and other prestigious institutions. The first school was established in 1961, and today there are 33 such schools across India, known for nurturing disciplined and capable students ready to serve the nation.

Students receive training not only in academics but also in leadership, teamwork, and personal development. Over the years, these schools have produced numerous officers who have served in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force with distinction.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Class 6 Admission: Students must be between 10 and 12 years of age at the time of admission.
  • Class 9 Admission: Students must be between 13 and 15 years of age and must have passed Class 8 from a recognized school.
  • Both boys and girls are eligible for admission.
  • Reservations are available for SC/ST/OBC and Defence category candidates as per government rules.

Exam Pattern

The All India Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE) is conducted annually by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The exam is offline and uses OMR sheets for responses. The pattern differs slightly for Class 6 and Class 9:

  • Class 6 Exam:
    • Mathematics – 50% weightage
    • Intelligence – 25% weightage
    • Language – 25% weightage
  • Class 9 Exam:
    • Mathematics – 50% weightage
    • Intelligence – 25% weightage
    • English, General Science, and Social Studies – 25% weightage
  • Followed by a medical examination and final merit list publication.
